Grain boundary evolution of highly nanotwinned alloys: Effect of initial twinned microstructure
نویسندگان
چکیده
The effects of initial twinned microstructure on the grain growth behavior four sputtered nanotwinned copper alloys were compared. As-deposited films characterized by transmission electron microscopy and microstructural evolution annealed samples was investigated through backscatter diffraction. Texture showed a pronounced effect, where with strong {111} textures exhibited abnormal that not observed in randomly textured film. Additionally, stability induced twin boundaries appears to be limited, as excess energy generated large density could drive early onset recrystallization.

Thermodynamics of microstructure evolution: grain growth
It is gradually getting clear that the macroscopic description of microstructure evolution requires additional thermodynamic parameters, entropy of microstructure and temperature of microstructure. It was claimed that there is "one more law of thermodynamics": entropy of microstructure must decay in isolated thermodynamic stable systems. Such behavior is opposite to that of thermodynamic entrop...

Impurity-based, premelting-like, intergranular films (IGFs, a common type of grain boundary complexion) can form in various materials and influence sintering, creep, and microstructure development. A thermodynamic framework is presented to forecast the formation and stability of these premelting-like grain boundary complexions (a.k.a. interfacial “phases” that are thermodynamically two dimensio...
متن کاملEffect of grain boundary energy anisotropy on highly-textured grain structures studied by phase field simulations
Two-dimensional phase field simulations were performed of grain growth in highly textured materials with equal fractions of 2 texture components, denoted as α and β grains, and assuming 2 values of the grain boundary energies, namely σlow for the boundaries between grains of a different texture component and σhigh for boundaries between grains of a similar orientation, resulting in microstructu...
متن کاملEvolution of Microstructure in Pure Nickel during Processing for Grain Boundary Engineering
Grain boundary engineered (GBE) materials have improved properties that are associated with the high fraction special Σ3 n boundaries in the microstructure, where n = 1, 2, or 3. Previous experimental studies with high purity nickel before and after GBE thermomechanical processing have shown that the fraction of Σ3 boundaries increased by at least factor of two [1]. Electron backscatter diffrac...
